JUST TO INTRODUCE MYSELF.... :)
An Air force officers daughter,born on the 27th of feb, 1964, I grew up in an environment of discipline and patriotism.
As an actor I acted in over a hundred films like Beta, Khiladi ,Gumrah, Pyar kiya to darna kya ,Hum saath saath hain, Ek rishta, Page 3. and in more than twenty television series like Swabhimaan, Kitty party,and Kahani ghar ghar ki. The recently telecast serials were Ranbir Rano on Zee t.v. and Meet Mila De Rabba on Sony Entertainment. Also a singer, so far I have released three original pop albums the first titled Lakhon mein ek ,in 1996, Kunika , in 2002, JOOMBISH (a mystical journey), in 2006. I have conducted, organized and participated in over 100 stage shows in India and around the world. Also running a successful event and production company called Karma Eventss & Entertainment. I conceived, produced and hosted a heart wrenching talk show called Strivers and Achievers, which celebrated the achievements of the physically and mentally challenged people. I produced a bhojpuri film called MAATTI which was released all over in 2007 and was received with a great response.
I was the first actress who joined the movement to fight AIDS in India way back in 1989. I was actively involved in the Relief& Rehabilitation services after the Gujarat earthquake in 2001which was led by the Pho_Rajiv Gandhi foundation team in the Rajkot area for the same.
During the general elections of 2004 I fought for the citizens whose names were deleted from the electoral list, which resulted in a first time ever campaign and re registering of voters . I also launched a crusade against criminals getting tickets and entering politics.
I am also the secretary of an ngo working for under privileged children called CHIP(supporting children in pain). CHIP now has a dream of working with BMC schools, to uplift the standard of education. Launched TARA CHARITABLE TRUST on 15th of August 2005 aiming to rebuild the lives of destitute people, helping the under privileged, providing Medical, Educational and Emotional succor to the needy.
And TCT provided children from Shivaji Park School,for the hearing impaired..with highly digitized hearing aid,which cost the trust 27 lakhs approximately. Recently in the board exams with the help of the high quality hearing aids, most of the students secured above 65%.
The trust, along with AVRA(andheri versova welfare residents association) recently conducted a three day medical camp and yoga shivir “CHIKITSA” in oshiwara, with a dental ,gynaec, ENT , and ophthalmic doctors attending to the patients. catering to over 5000 children and adults.
AVRA has been working in the area towards good governance and systemic changes in the facilities for the people. I studied the law and represented the people of oshiwara/lokhandwala/jogeshwari, in a public nuisance case (section 133crpc), regarding illegal parking and non functional traffic signals in the area. And won the case. AVRA has been fighting for the oshiwara railway station, the ROB (JVLR north and south). Assurances of the commencement of work have been given, and the work has begun.
On July 31st I had the honour of meeting Shri Rahul Gandhi, I was so moved by his commitment to serve India and its people, that as soon as I returned from Delhi I decided to join the Congress party and work in his team with the same fervour and passion as before. I then joined the congress party on the 4th of aug 2009. With the intention of working in the larger interest of the country, under a dynamic leadership, in a party with a national presence, giving a voice to the million voiceless and faceless people , my endeavor in life is to help the people in and around the community to a better living, and equal opportunities no matter whichever strata of society the person belongs to.
